About
Ollie Mae and Karl Schroeder started Cold Mountain Farm & Crafts in 2025 with the goal of bringing locally-grown cut flower bouquets and arrangements to the Northland. Our growing climate, with its harsh winters and tough soils, provides both challenges and inspiration for our work.Though the summers are short and sweet, we hope to 'extend the season' with a strong focus on growing both early spring flowers and everlasting dried flowers for winter bouquets and crafts. Our growing practices emphasize building rich and resilient soil to eliminate the need for chemical fertilizer, and we use only natural methods for pest and weed control, with no synthetic pesticides.
Ollie is known among local families and imaginative crafters for her thoughtfully-curated fairy house kits and other crafts that she creates for Ollie Mae Enchanted Crafts. She is also a talented ceramicist and a full-time art teacher with Duluth Public Schools.Karl leads the on-farm tasks, and enjoys making wood-turned art from locally-harvested trees in the winter. He is also a nationally-rated competitive fencer and coach at Zenith City Fencers.

Born thirty years ago
I've traveled countless miles
along rivers where the green rushes swayed
to the frontier where the red dust swirled
I've made elixirs and tried to become immortal
I've read the classics and written odes
and now I've retired to Cold Mountain
to lie in a stream and wash out my earsHan Shan, c. 800 AD.
